Making a Referral for Intestinal Rehabilitation

We offer an effective long-term treatment for life-threatening conditions of the digestive tract.

If an adult or child patient has trouble absorbing nutrition through the digestive system, it’s important to be referred for a comprehensive evaluation as soon as possible. A primary care physician or gastroenterologist (digestive system specialist) can refer patients to the Miami Transplant Institute for an evaluation. Patients can also contact our team directly to schedule an appointment.

Our intestinal rehabilitation team can draw on the comprehensive resources of Jackson Health System to provide multidisciplinary care—an important consideration because patients’ medical condition may affect multiple organs, as well as the intestine.

Medical Conditions

There are many digestive system conditions that can require intestinal rehabilitation, including:

  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Short bowel syndrome (short gut syndrome)
  • Complications from total parenteral nutrition (TPN)
  • Necrotizing enterocolitis
  • Gastroschisis
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Hirschsprung’s disease
  • Gastrointestinal fistula
  • Vascular thrombosis
  • Bowel obstructions
  • Prior abdominal surgery
  • Traumatic injuries
  • Genetic disorders
