Objectives

Upon completion of the course, attendees will be able to:

  • Explain the current allocation changes and their impact on transplant programs.
  • Evaluate the appropriate timing of referral for transplantation and appropriate indications/contraindications for transplant, including available programs for managing challenging patients.
  • Identify new and upcoming options in organ preservation strategies to increase access to organ offers.
  • Discuss the nutritional impact on transplant patients through the continuum of care, and emphasis on patient education.
  • Review common medical complications in transplants so the care provider is aware of the day-to-day observation for a post-transplant patient.
  • Determine the routine tests to monitor transplanted organs, and novel, non-invasive tests proposed to identify rejection earlier.
  • Discuss the efficacy, safety, and anticipated outcomes of treatment therapies for infectious diseases common and threatening to the post-transplant patient population.
  • Incorporate best practice education related to sexual health in transplanted patients.
  • Incorporate strategies for reviewing patients’ labs into daily practice to ensure the patient is being considered as a whole and not from a single organ perspective.

*These objectives are based on the outlined agenda listed below, and are subject to change.
